Harley-Davidson is considered one of the most recognisable brands in the world with Harley-Davidson’s being sold in many countries through the world. The brand is also considered most as a symbol of freedom and many consider owing a Harley-Davidson Motorcycle more than owning a brand of motorcycle, it is considered a lifestyle.

Chris' Road Trip - Part Four

Once I had my accommodation and had relaxed for a day I decided to track down the Local Alice Springs Harley-Davidson dealer- Desert Edge-. My main reason for this was just to get a qualified technician to have a look over the bike and to check out what tyres I could put on the Buell. My rear tyre had taken a bit of a beating from the load and the straight stretches of road. I estimated around 1000kms of tread left on my rear tyre but when you are in the centre of Australia 1000kms isn’t going to get you very far so I had the boys at Desert Edge fit up some new rubber.

After two days of learning on a bike that was far too tall for me and for those that know how short I am you know that’s not hard, I received a piece of paper saying I was competent to ride on the road.

Chris' Road Trip - Part Three

So with the longest section of highway between fuel stops out of the way I was extremely satisfied with the economy that the Buell XB12XT provided. The 290km stretch was done using around 14.5 litres of fuel which was good economy considering how much luggage I had stored on the bike. Also the windy conditions I was experiencing can chew up the fuel as well.

But after asking a few people, I think I have worked out the story, and no it’s not about performance, but one of intrigue.
