Warren & Kane want to make the bike look like what a modern take on board racer and a dirt tracker. So the tank was changed with a 1200 custom tank with a flush mount filler cap to give it more of a racer look. The boys fitted a set of bars of a Cross Bone’s to represent the board racer bars. The boys decided to build their own exhaust system so it would represent a 60’s home engineered tracker system.
At this stage Warren was involved in a horrific motorcycle accident that meant he could not help any further with hands on part of the build, so Kane single handily built the bike by himself.
The boys wanted to fit black machined accessories to keep the blacked out dark look that the bike has. A race tuner was fitted and tuned to the pipes and has a real racy sound to it.
OWNER JIMMY WALTERS
This bike began life as a 1973 Ironhead Sportster. The owner inherited the bike from his father.
The owner wanted a chopper style bike but wanted to keep his dad's memory alive. A plan was hatched to keep the original engine and build a chopper around it. The bike was stripped down and a long list of parts was made up and ordered. The Santee rigid frame is the basis for this bike build. Keeping with the "old school" look the wheels are laced and narrow, 21" front and 16" rear. Ape hanger handlebars and a tall lay back pointed sissybar add to the style. An upswept 2" exhaust system completes the look.
The engine will be rebuilt to stock specifications, with the addition of an S&S E series carb and a Wimmer air cleaner. New chrome covers will dress the rebuilt engine. A round custom, modified oil tank with hidden filler will hold the engines life blood. Custom fabricated forward controls, made in-house, will take care of the shifting and rear drum brake. A one piece custom gas tank with aircraft style filler cap sits above the engine. The front fender has been fabricated in-house to match the lines of the raked and extended front end. The rear fender has been heavily modified to look like it belongs there. The sissybar has hidden mounts for a clean look.
When completed this will be a stunning old school style chopper with a difference. If you like what you see, please contact us to discuss your future custom ride.
Details at a glance:
Owner - Al Higgins
After considerable consultation with our customer and having put a plan in place the work began. Parts were ordered from suppliers in the USA, Italy and England. The fuel tank and fenders were removed along with the engine. Workshop head technician and foreman Matt Curtis expertly handled the mechanical and electrical modifications and assembly. The engine was dismantled and the crankcases bored to take the Screamin' eagle 113 barrels. Careful assembly of the engine with the addition of a 50mm throttle body and a Screamin' eagle super tuner has produced an impressive 116 hp and 111.3 ft/lbs torque.
With the panels removed, fabricator Jim Curtis got to work making modifications. The fuel tank was cut into three pieces. A fuel tank from a Dyna wide glide donated its sides which were massaged, shaped and welded to the original rocker tank. The front fender was shortened and new mounts fabricated to match the inverted fork front end. The rear fender was shortened, reshaped and the tail light assembly frenched in for a smooth look. All panels were then sent out to be repainted in original crimson red sunglo. Murals were then applied by Geoff from exquisite airbrushing. All work apart from paint and murals was carried out in-house by our team of expert technicians and fabricators.
Final assembly began with the installation of all major components such as the genuine hd inverted forks, 113c.i engine, and painted panels. Details were taken care of with the fitting of the custom handlebars and controls, foot pegs, lizard light kit, infinity timer cover and modified seat. The desired result was achieved and a striking custom bike was born.
